At Rawson Saunders we know students with dyslexia can be successful when learning a foreign language. Let us give you some evidence in regards to this fact. If you are dyslexic, then please consider joining our school to fulfill your foreign language requirement. We understand what you are going through and have high quality instruction to help you on your journey.

Dyslexics will learn a foreign language, conversationally, just as well as those that are not dyslexic. The parts of the brain used for reading comprehension, discourse, syntax, and semantics are fully functioning and arguably a strength of those with dyslexia. The phonology of a foreign language will be difficult for a dyslexic to learn but not impossible or hopeless.

This understanding can be found in the ‘Everyone Speaks, but Not Everyone Reads’ chapter of Overcoming Dyslexia. This is an important chapter when understanding that language acquisition is more complex than just speaking. Learning to read, learning to write, and learning to speak are three very different processes in the brain.
Furthermore, dyslexics' challenges in learning to read and write in your first language could show your tenaciousness and abilities to deal with failure. Your weakness can become your strength, especially if you are highly motivated to speak, read, and write in a second language.

At Rawson Saunders, you will have a more immersion type of learning and acquire foreign language conversationally first. You will not solely encounter classroom learning which presents language step by step. Language errors are gently corrected, and you are surrounded by the language. Different people speak the language to you, and learners observe or participate in many different types of language events. We pride ourselves in our unique approach to foreign language learning which is tailored to fit your needs.

If you are dyslexic and highly motivated to learn another language, then you can be successful. It is recommended for those with dyslexia to learn American Sign Language, so we offer many of these classes. We also offer Spanish, as there are only 5 vowel sounds, and it is more predictable with fewer rules and exceptions.
